Pedal overdrive / distorsión / fuzz

The Fuzz Face debuted in 1966 as a germanium fuzz and by the '70s was switched to silicon for circuit stability reasons but its circuit was barely adapted to its new semiconductors. In light of this, the StarCrash is the '70s fuzz you wish they would have made from the beginning. First, Catalinbread got rid of the Fuzz knob that 95 percent of all players didn't use, while others used their guitar's volume knob instead. Secondly, a handy Bias control, also known as a "dying battery simulator.", to starve the second transistor of voltage and let you dial in the right amount of texture, from raw and brawny to lean and harmonically rich. The Low-Cut control cuts the bass frequencies from 30Hz to 500Hz. While bias and filter controls cut volume, Catalinbread have compensated by giving the StarCrash a little more volume than the typical "Face" circuit, so you can still push your amp regardless of knob settings.

Ficha técnica

  • Controls : Volume, Low-Cut (High-pass filter that cuts at 30Hz up to 500Hz at 3dB per octave so you lose 3dB from 250Hz, 6dB from 125Hz, etc... This control is most notable past noon), Bias (Changes the character of the fuzz from "distortion-esque" to "Velcro fuzz.", the noon position being the normal Fuzz Face bias point)
